Roni Shachnaey
Israeli born in 1944, Roni started his performance career as a musician and composer. His band achieved much success in the Israeli charts, reaching number one and two (with both music and lyrics written by Roni.)
In 1963 Roni was drafted into the Israeli Army for two years. However In May 1967 Roni was recalled and served in the historic Six-Day War.
In 1969 Roni moved to England where he met his wife Laraine and (the late) Jimmy Rogers, who was a literal ‘court magician’ at Buckingham Palace, and became Roni’s mentor in magic. On returning back to Israel in the Seventies, Roni founded The Israeli Society for Promoting the Art of Magic (I.S.P.A.M). Upon the decision to return to England again with his family - Roni was granted the title of “Grand President for life” by the Society.
Roni has gained a reputation internationally as a front line Mentalist, contibuting to lectures, books and member-only publications. Many of his “creations” are still sold by magic dealers around the world. Similar replications of his ideas also appear occasionally ...
Bizarre Magick is Roni’s first love. He strongly feels that with bizarre , moreso than with any other realm of magic is there the presence and atmosphere of theatrical performance and the the closest experience of “real” magic.
In 2007, Roni’s love for mystery entertainment got him together with Professor Todd Landman (aka Dr Todd) and Steve Drury. Together they formed Psycrets - The British Society of Mystery Entertainers.
Roni has since lectured back in the USA, Israel (where he was honoured even further) and to much acclaim at The Magic Circle.
Roni is now working towards establishing the Bizarre Magick UK Gatherings, the first being held in 2010 and will subsequently take place annually in the second week each May.
